My Story

In 2007 when I had my third daughter Katie I was feeling unwell and lost a lot of weight so I decided to see the doctor for a health check. I had an initial test and was immediately told that I was diabetic and would be on medication for the rest of my life. This was a massive shock to me as I had always been very fit through cycling, running and going to gym whilst maintaining a healthy diet. Diabetes UK have been a great help through my journey which is why 50% of my fundraising will go to them.

During Covid the solitude, pressure and the higher risk of my own mortality due to the Type 1 Diabetes took a big toll on my mental health. My usual coping mechanism was exercise but as this was taken away from me the stresses got worse and worse. The final straw was getting caught for a speeding offence and I really didn't think that I could cope anymore. A phone call to the EIC made a great help to me and really put things into perspective. After some counselling sessions this helped me turn things around. So 50% of my fundraising will go to the EIC.

This Challenge is going to be extremely tough for me as its 870 miles of cycling and 62,400 feet of climbing over 14 days.

This challenge is 100% self funded so every penny that I raise will go to both of these charities.
